Since play is fun and a child's natural language, children are able to confront what is bothering them.
Through their play. children show me what goes on in their physical and psychological world.
I practice and teach child-centered play therapy, tailored for children ages 3-9, to help them to cope with difficult emotions and to solve their own problems.

Dr. Achacoso (aka "Dr. Joey) is a child and family therapist with a private practice at the Central Texas Play Therapy Center in Pflugerville, Texas. He specializes in Child-Centered Play Therapy for children as young as 3 years old, and in Adventure-Based Family Therapy for families who want to learn how to communicate and connect with each other in a challenging, yet playful way.
Dr. Joey helps children, adolescents, and their families who struggle with various issues including divorce, transitions, ADHD, discipline, single-parenting, and anger management.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor, Dr. Joey provides the following: individual therapy for children and adolescents; family therapy; parent coaching; workshops for parents, teachers, and the counseling community; and supervisory training for students and interns. As a Parent Coach, he helps parents find effective ways to improve their relationship with their child.
With his primary focus on developmental psychology, Dr. Joey earned his doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin in 1998. Dr. Joey is an international speaker who has served as an adjunct professor in the Counseling Department at Texas State University as well as the President of the Hill Country Chapter of the Texas Association of Play Therapy.
His dog Charlie (aka "Dogtor Charlie") comforts the children and their families who come to The Central Texas Play Therapy Center.
Dr. Joey began helping children and their families over 30 years ago.
